ReSource Roxbury Reaches Three Years Without Recordable Injury
The ReSource Waste Services recycling facility in Roxbury, MA recently reached a safety milestone: Three years without a recordable injury.
“Our first priority at all times is health and safety,” said Facility Manager Stanley Walczak. “Our safety program is always top of mind and runs through everything we do. We incorporate behavior-based safety observations, safety communication notices, risk assessment and mitigation, monthly inspections and an incentive compensation system.”
ReSource Roxbury, located at 101 Gerard Street, is permitted as a Solid Waste Recycling Facility by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. Its permitted capacity is 223,000 tons per year. The facility is an important corporate citizen in Roxbury and the surrounding region, as it supports nearly 50 direct jobs, other indirect jobs associated with the haulers who deliver waste to the facility, and additional jobs tied to local goods and services related to the facility.
The Roxbury team reached the three-year safety mark on September 20, 2020. To celebrate, each employee was awarded a blue polo shirt with embroidery that commemorated the three-year accomplishment. Walczak also distributed boxed lunches from Popeye’s.
The facility in Roxbury started operation in 2010 under a prior owner and was acquired by ReSource in 2012. The facility is located 10 minutes from historic downtown Boston in the Newmarket business district of the Roxbury neighborhood, with quick and easy access to I-90. The facility accepts a wide variety of solid, non-hazardous construction and demolition (C&D) materials from waste handlers, contractors, roofers, landscapers, property managers, clean-out companies and homeowners. The Roxbury workers accept inbound waste and recover components of value so they can be transformed into reusable commodities.
ReSource Roxbury is the only LEED-certified C&D processing facility in New England. The Recycling Certification Institute provides a credible, ISO-level third-party certification of the facility’s recycling rates that meets the United States Green Building Council MRpc87 criteria.
The facility’s services expanded this fall to provide dumpster rental services to Greater Boston businesses and residents needing to dispose of waste from clean-outs and construction projects.
